“mommy, look at me! I can fly” (2024) was an exhibition/ event, part of the program “segundas na z” at Galeria Zé dos Bois. For this I created a series of interactive objects that would bring my drawings to live.

“Os desenhos da Maria convergem pela criação de personagens. Estas personagens nasceram sem narrativa, muitas surgiram a partir de gestos que sabem bem à mão, duma navegação pelo imaginário, dum mergulho pela intuição. Quando postas em conjunto cria-se a narrativa, vê-se que habitam no mesmo mundo – e neste mundo estão em constante movimento, quase te pedem para as veres a dançar, mas, no final do dia, um desenho é um desenho.

mommy look at me! I can fly! visa dar vida a este mundo de desenhos de bonecos através de uma série de objetos interativos. Quebra-se a quarta parede e aviva-se a imagem. A ideia é estarmos acordados, imersos e conectados – quer seja humano, quer seja boneco.”

These characters were born without a narrative; many emerged from gestures that feel good to the hand, from a journey through the imaginary, from a dive into intuition. When placed together, a narrative is created, and it can be seen that they inhabit the same world – and in this world, they are in constant motion, almost asking you to see them dance. But, at the end of the day, a drawing is just a drawing.
